Friends. Fun. Food. Day (2)

Dani, Nyssa, Samie, and I have wanted a weekend in Minneapolis for some time! Today was the day we got to experience some things we saw trending online and also have spontaneous adventure with friends.

We started the day off right with a coffee shop that also sold books. Or was it a book store that also had coffee? We bought plenty of each. I had found a series by Joe Abercrombie in hardback that I just started listening to and loved. They also had the new Fredrick Backman, my favorite author, there and I had to grab that.

After that we were in search of a killer breakfast. There are plenty of options in the cities for this but something kept grabbing our eyes. There was one place that touted “world’s best cinnamon rolls”. So we had to go check it out. A relatively short driver later and we saw a line that spanned down the block and around the corner. No joke. So we pivoted! Nyssa found a charming bakery near by. That place was also busy and finding parking was a trick, but we got there soon enough. The line was out of the door, but the workers were efficient and it went quickly. We grabbed croissants, cookies, apple turnovers, and a ham and cheese delight. It was absolutely perfect. Who needs cinnamon rolls anyway..

Right after that, it was a quick drive to Buffalo Exchange. After a drunken shopping spree in San Fransisco, finding a Buffalo Exchange has become a tradition for us. We had a good time poking around the shelves and I bought a really cool bomber jacket.

After that our adventure finds us at an absolutely huge antique mall. This was Samie’s dream and nightmare at the same time. It was exactly how she would want to spend a day, but there was just not enough time to explore everything. There also happened to be a social event happening in the parking lot including local vendors, classic cars, and loud music.

Our next place was on our list from the very first plans of this weekend. This was a place totally dedicated to claw machines. They had a token system and you could trade up any stuffies you won into more valuable prizes. After dropping too much money on tokens and a whirlwind hour of claw machine craziness, we walked away with a Charizard figurine.

Next, we have a date with a crazy and totally unique mini golf course. Can Can Wonderland is in the basement of a warehouse district and you feel like you’re in the wrong place wondering creepy stair and hall ways until you witness an explosion of color and sound. This place has it all! There is a full arcade with top of the line game cabinets. This area was very busy and seemed like a great place to socialize. In there middle there is a legendary mini golf course that is as creative as it is unique and fun. First we wondered around the free arcade of vintage games. This was a beautiful mix of museum and arcade that was totally free to play.

We grabbed a quick bite to eat from the cafeteria (yes it has that too) and started our mini golf round.

The highest compliment I can give is that I just didn’t want this to stop. We took our time and enjoyed each hole and it was still too fast. You truly have to try it to experience it. I know it is very silly to go on about a mini golf course, but go try it and see if you still think I’m crazy.

We only shared a little food between us at Can Can Wonderland to hold us over for our dinner. We had big plans and they were completely new for us. We wanted to try Korean BBQ and hot pot, and it just so happens that there is a place that does both! K Pot was our answer. We got there and put our names in and had about a 45 minute wait. There was a consignment store very close by that we walked around while waiting.

We got seated and introduced to an entirely unique dining experience. You have the option to do the grill, hot pot, or both. We of course went all in. You have a iPad at your table you use to send in your orders. You say you want some shrimp and brisket, within minutes someone brings a small portion of what you ordered and you cook it up yourself to your liking. We had the absolute best time and it was my biggest highlight of the trip.

This was our big day, but we still have a morning to explore the cities before heading back home!
