Friends. Fun. Food. (Day 1)

I have an absolutely packed weekend to share. We have been wanting a weekend with our college friends, Dani and Nyssa, for a while now. They had suggested a weekend in Minneapolis and it turned out perfect.

The school year had just ended and we were ready for a break. Nyssa still had her very last day of school to finish out before hopping in the car with us and taking off!

Dani was working at a local coffee shop in the summer (between working on his Masters in Drumset Performance) and treated us with tasty drinks! There was a variety to choose from and I believe I had an Italian soda and Sam had the “Dani Special” I don’t remember the ingredients, but judging on the sip I stole it was delicious.

They live basically right on the way to the cities, so the drive was easy peasy. After picking them up the miles went very quickly. It’s astonishing how much you can catch up with a person. Day to day our lives feel pretty boring, but we found nuggets to talk about.

Right around supper time we were passing by Buddy Boy BBQ. This is a spot that Dani and Nyssa had driven by before and wanted to try out. Sam and I were happy to agree. It was a short wait for a table, but it was a busy place. They seemed to have regulars that put in online orders to swing by and pick up to go or to enjoy in the ample outdoor seating available.

We got jalapeño hush puppies for the table and we all tried different meats. We shared a little of our choices and got to sample a little of everything. Overall the meat was very tender and had incredible smoke flavor and notable smoke rings in the brisket. They didn’t cut corners and took pride in slow and low cooking.

After our meal we wobbled back to the car to finish off the rest of our drive. We had less than an hour until getting to our Air B&B. Once there we had to grab a key from a lockbox and navigate to which apartment was ours for these couple of days. The place was very nice. We dropped bags and I started looking for dessert within walking distance.

There was a place called Treats Cereal Bar and Boba. It ticked all the boxes. Sam and Dani got mango boba desserts while Nyssa and I chose to eat the love children of cereal and ice cream. It was awesome.

We managed to make the most of our travel day, but the adventure is just getting started. On to day 2 next.
