August 2018

Back in 2018 I took a road trip with my family to Glacier National Park and Banff National Park. Mom, Dad, Annie (my big sister) and I set out in Mom’s Honda Odyssey to tackle my very first border crossing.
We first had to get ourselves to North Dakota. Mom, Dad, and I drove straight north from Aberdeen to meet Annie in Jamestown. She drove from Fargo that morning so we didn’t have to go out of our way to pick her up. I believe she left her car in a McDonalds parking lot near the interstate and when we got back it was totally fine.
We split up the driving between the four of us and made the time pass by with podcasts and music.
We were staying at a bed and breakfast place south of Glacier National Park and it was starting to get late. We had the address plugged into our phones, but we kept on getting turned around. We ended up having to stop at a restaurant for the restroom and asked for directions. The hostess kindly pointed back toward the way we came and said it was something like 4 miles back that way. We headed back and had our eyes pealed for a sign and ended up finding the place past 11 pm. There were “check-in-late” instructions on the office. There were a couple of A-frame cabins on this property along with a big family home and a mess haul where there was a kitchen and dining room. We stumbled into the A-frame with our name on it and our luggage exploded everywhere inside.
We had just enough energy to take a look around the place and settle in before passing out. Annie and I got to sleep on separate twin beds up in the loft. Mom and Dad had the master downstairs. The cabin was very charming and exactly the aesthetic you’d expect if you were surrounded by trees and mountains.
The next day would take us into Glacier National Park where we shop and walk and shop some more.
