Sam, Alyssa, Evan, and I woke up early to pack up camp and hit the road. We will be back at this campground in a couple of days on our way back. That in mind made it easier to say goodbye to our beautiful lake side view. I tried using one of those camp coffee pots and did a terrible job. There ended up being more coffee grounds than coffee and we ended up finding our morning caffeine somewhere else.

Our journey takes us from the Dallas area to the Austin area. Our Air BnB is near Driftwood, TX. Turned out it was in a gated community in the country. We were staying in a guest house in the corner of the owners property. It was very well maintained and so peaceful. The owners two dachshunds came over to greet us and were very friendly. We also found out that humming birds were a near constant companion to the area.

The property also extended down into a valley. It was a decent elevation change starting with stairs and ended with climbing down rocks to a river. We didn’t know about this ahead of time but was a fun adventure.

We were exploring down by the river when Alyssa spotted a water moccasin moving fast for us and we sprinted up every foot of that huge elevation gain. We did not visit the river again after that.
We also got to chat with our hosts while we carried our luggage in the guest house and they suggested we try out their favorite spot to eat. It was The Salt Lick. I have written about this dining experience in great detail on my very first blog post here.

This was my first introduction to Texas BBQ and it was incredible. To hit just a couple of highlights; It smelled incredible and tasted even better. Our waiter had a charming southern accent and I still get teased for falling in love with him. The peach cobbler a la mode was to die for.
We had planned to go grocery shopping after dinner but that turned out to be nearly impossible. We were so full we didn’t want to think about food ever again and we had to come up with food plans for the next couple of days. We walked around aimlessly before settling on salad ingredients and assorted breakfast items.
We spent the rest of the night back at our temporary home. We looked up funny videos and laughed the night away in good company. The next day we head into Austin for a proper food tour and tacos that changed my life.
