We start another action packed day with a trip to The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. Our group had the place to ourselves so we didn’t have the normal chaos we had seen other places. The memorial is very beautiful. Each bench represents a person that died from that crash. It is well kept and worth your time to stop and pay respects.

Our next stop was The Holocaust Museum. It was a very somber morning. This museum was so intensely informative that I would recommend it to anyone. You take an elevator to the top floor and work your way down and learn so much about World War 2.

We then bussed back to the area that had The Korean and Vietnam war memorial. We were a little rushed last night and a number of students were disappointed they didn’t get enough time to take those in. A short walk from there is the World War 2 memorial. We all had a turn taking pictures in front of the South Dakota pillar.

A not so short walk from there we made it to the Museum of American History. This is also where we planned to have lunch. Sam and I broke away and went to the Jazz Cafe that is tucked into a corner. We paid way too much for this salad and sandwich, but it hit the spot all the same. There was also a counter to order Starbucks and we partook.

There were a lot of things to see and learn, but the entertainment wing drew our attention most. They had cases and cases of seemingly random items from Captain America’s shield to Dorothy’s slippers.

Our group did a relatively quick tour of that museum and got back on busses to head to dinner. We had reservations at a seafood place in Alexandrea. It is about 20 minutes south of DC. Alexandria is dripping with history and aesthetic. We were not there very long but most people agreed that it was a beautiful city. At the restaurant Samie ordered a salmon salad and I got a creamy cheesy pasta. Both were excellent.

Now for the big attraction! It was time for The Memorial Day Concert. This was a star studded night of live music and dramatic readings. We got to participate in honoring some very heroic stories.

We sat up on the lawn of The Capitol Building and had to watch most of the concert on these gigantic screens they had hanging from cranes.

Following the concert we had an incredibly hard time filing out and staying together. Countless other groups are all trying to do the same and there were multiple choke points were we got separation in our herd of students. Luckily we didn’t lose anyone and have to go looking for them!
Tomorrow we march!
