Sam and I started our morning very early at Grand Canyon National Park. We were going to be crossing a time zone and gaining an hour almost immediately on our morning drive. We are headed to The Four Corners Monument before continuing on to Denver, CO.

Before we left the park we passed this enormous Elk having his breakfast. He seemed unbothered as we slowly drove by. We were up before anyone else in the campground and got a glimpse of its morning routine.

We knew ahead of time that this stop is a tourist trap, but we found out how true that was when we pulled up. The gravel parking lot was multiple times bigger than the monument itself. You walk up to vendor tables with “ authentic hand crafted items” that are similar at each booth. There is a line of people waiting to take their photo in the cross hairs of all four states. With all that being said, it’s a fun experience and photo to have.

This was also about as much as we went into New Mexico on our trip. We claim we visited every state west of South Dakota and it is technically true because a sliver we drove in New Mexico. We grabbed a photo as evidence.

Along with our first time being in New Mexico this was also our first time seeing rain on our trip. We hit a patch of showers on our way to Denver and it was about this time we realized how lucky we had been in the past days. We drove through it quickly and were greeted by a double rainbow on the other side of it.

We arrived at the second and last hotel of our trip. When planning the trip we figured we would have earned another night in a bed. We also had a 12 hour drive on our last day and needed to be rested. After getting settled in we looked for restaurants in the area. We found an Italian place close by that looked tasty. Sam ordered a sangria and was not disappointed. We also got garlic knots and an Italian sausage pizza with sun dried tomatoes. We ate well and were ready to crash for the night.
